Welcome back everyone! Now that we are back at school, it’s time to accept that winter break is sadly and slowly fading into a far away memory, for many of you filled with gorgeous tans, bikinis and high-waisted shorts. On the bright side, at least now we can all work on recovering from our horrendous sunburns.
Girls, it’s time we give the boys some of the fashion limelight and help them out with some critical do’s and don’ts for winter looks. Just because we are forced to brave negative degree weather, does not mean women or men should have to discard enthusiasm for fashion.
Here are 10 essential trends for winter that every man must keep in mind when looking through their closet if they want to dress to impress.
Watch: In this cold weather, why keep your handsome wrists naked? Wearing a nice watch is essential, especially in the winter when bundling up means hiding trendy shirts and accessories. It is the perfect way to add class to your outfit. Although this winter essential is more on the pricier side, you will have it for many years (and winters) to come. Check out the watches GQ is obsessed with for the New Year.
Winter hat: Boys, stick to the classic winter hat.
We know it’s cold, but you must stay away from your grandmother’s hand-knit cottage project and stick to the standard wool beanie. Not only will it keep you warm and help save yourself from a horrific hair day, it will add to your look and it’s an easy accessory to throw on last minute.
Vests: Although you guys might have wanted to opt for a chunky sweater with a bulky jacket on top, there are better ways to keep warm and stay fashionable.A vest can be a critical layering piece and can keep you extremely warm in this frigid weather. There are so many options out there, go out and do some vest shopping and I’m sure you’ll be surprised at how good they look (and how warm they are!)
The Manly Scarf (Tie! Tie! Tie!) Forget about the over the shoulder homeless look. If you want a classy winter look and want to keep warm, you must tie your scarf in the best way possible. If you are still unsure, just avoid the Lenny Kravitz-esque look and we are sure you’ll be fine. Here are three possible options of wearing them: Parisian Knot (left), Once-Around Knot (Middle), and Loose Once-Around Knot (Right).
Urban Down Jacket: If you are not a vest guy, don’t freak out. There are other options for you like this urban down jacket, which comes in many styles and is perfect fora slim and thin look, functioning as an essential layering piece. You can wear this beauty over your clothes to stay nice and toasty while looking amazingly handsome.
Winter boots: When it comes to boots, you really only need to know one thing: avoid UGG boots. They might be comfy, and us girls might have the privilege of getting away with them, but to be completely honest there are so many better boots out there (boots that will withstand the snow and salt too!). The leather work boot for example is a rugged handsome shoe that will withstand the winter brutalities if properly maintained, and look good with any outfit. Hand over those UGG boots to your girlfriend.
Leather Stitched Gloves: Stepping into your car in negative 20 degrees can be pretty brutal, especially on your warm hands which are obligated to grab onto that freezing steering wheel. Treat yourself to leather gloves, they will look amazing and add a level of maturity to your outfit, along with keeping those man hands toasty warm.
Black Jeans: For those days you decide to retire the sweatpants and sweatshirt and go for a classy look, grab those black jeans. They are perfect for winter and will pair nice with an Irish fisherman sweater (not your grandmother’s knit sweater), creating a clean and crisp winter look perfect for any occasion. You can also pair your jeans with a tweed blazer for a fancier occasion, the blazer is meant to keep you warm and help you stay fashionable.
The Beard: If you can pull it off, it’s time to ditch the razor guys. We are not talking about a full-fledged Santa Clause beard here, but you can let your face gain a (little) blanket of warmth and grow that facial hair out.
Not only is it warm and cozy, but also it looks great in the wintertime and most women love it!
